Liz Anthonisen
Liz is a piano teacher and freelance musician with over 15 years of experience teaching and playing classical, jazz, rock, pop, and alternative styles. Her credentials include RCM Grade 8 in Piano and Theory as well as a Bachelor of Music in Keyboard Studies from Humber College.
Liz’s teaching philosophy is rooted in giving students a solid foundation in keyboard fundamentals (technique, rhythm, sight-reading, ear training and theory) while also giving students space to explore their own musical interests and goals. She always enjoys learning about students’ musical interests and finding ways to incorporate their favourite songs, artists and styles into lessons.
In her time outside of teaching, Liz gigs and records music with a number of bands in Toronto. She currently is the keyboardist/backup vocalist for the post-rock band Slack, and also plays keyboards for the indie project Jaeger. Liz also has extensive knowledge of synthesizers and electronic music, and uses synths when performing experimental/fusion music with Public Library and The Department of Sanitation.
