Shelby Liu holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno, where she studied under Dr. James Winn on a full scholarship. Receiving professional classical music training since the age of five, Shelby’s extensive performance background includes exceptional solo recitals, piano concertos, and notable achievements such as winning the champion title in the 2015 Asia International Music Competition in solo piano performance. Beyond the piano, she also has training in oboe, composition, and vocal singing.

With over 14 years of private and studio teaching experience, Shelby has taught students of all ages and skill levels—from young beginners to adult hobbyists—across various institutions, including extensive teaching experience in the San Francisco Bay Area and serving as a Piano Teaching Assistant at the University of Nevada, Reno. She is also skilled in guiding students through RCM examinations, auditions, and recitals.

As a warm and engaging instructor, Shelby believes that learning music should be both fun and deeply rewarding. Her teaching focuses on building strong foundations, motivation, and tangible progress, specializing in classical, pop, and improvisational styles. By tailoring each lesson to the unique goals and interests of the student, Shelby creates a creative, supportive environment where students can enjoy the joy of making music while actually seeing themselves improve.
